Wanganui Water Filter

Drinking water in Wanganui is graded by the Midcentral Health,  Wanganui as Satisfactory, low level of risk. But what is acceptable as a low risk is up to the individual drinking the water and there are many variants that cannot be taken in to the collations when water is graded.

Variants include pipe quality, old pipes transporting water can transfer many contaminates to our drinking supply.

Some facts:

  • The average family uses between 2200 and 3000 liters of water per year, Out of a special drinking water faucet or counter top drinking system.
  • The average family uses between 7500 and 11000 liters of water per year from regular cold-water faucet located in the kitchen. (Washing hands, rinsing dishes, and vegetables.)
  • It is unfair to expect local council to provide water of pleasant taste and filtration when only a small percentage is used as drinking water.

There for it is wise for us to take care of our bodies by ensuring that the water we provide for ourselves and our families to drink is of the best quality possible.

We have over 1500 customers using our filtration systems in the Wanganui area and the filters that we most recommend can vary depending on the individual needs and budget. There are 3 recommended Wanganui water filters:

  • Single filter systems (under or on bench units are available)
Usually this is a carbon-briquette cartridge that reduces taste/order/chlorine and certain VOC’s from the drinking water. Nominal 0.5-micronrating.
  • Double filter systems (under bench units)
These units contain 2 filters one as above and another to stop scale build up removes chlorine, taste and odour, organics, is rated as 10 micron.
  • Reverse Osmosis System(under bench units)
This is a 4-stage process of sediment removal, activated carbon filters and an ultra fine semipermeable membrane that rejects around 96-99% for nearly all contaminates.

Why you should change you cartridges annually
Unless a cartridge is replaced regularly you can end up running you drinking water through a high-tech dirty sponge. Back-washing the filter with hot water will not return it to new. Like any water-processing device, disposed cartridge filters can only function effectively when properly maintained by replacing the cartridge at set intervals.

Martin Fox PhD in his book “Healthy Water” says:
“For practical purposes carbon filters cannot reduce chemicals for longer than 12 months, regardless of how much water goes through them. To replace your cartridge yearly is sound advice”
